  1. Your Questions About Usui Reiki

    February 28, 2012 by Brad

    Betty asks…

Is Reiki real or just hocus-pocus?

My Girlfriend is driving me nuts. Over the past several months, she’s become interested in Reiki; becoming a Reiki Master, etc. I fail to understand how someone can become a Master in just two classes. She’s also into Body Talk, but she also performs Reiki on the dog & cats, telling me they like it. My girlfriend is wanting to attend a 4-day course. For whatever reason, she seems to be in a big rush about this. One of her contacts was planning a course locally, but that hasn’t come to fruition. My girlfriend has delved into booking a course in 1 1/2 weeks; but it’s a 2 hr drive from her home 1-way or 4hrs round trip. This means staying in a hotel, meals., etc. She made the statement that she doesn’t look forward to staying in the hotel for 4 nights by herself. I can’t/won’t take the time off work for this. Personally, I don’t believe in Reiki..and she’s always going on that her ‘angels are telling her what to do”, etc. Now, I’m a little worried that my g/f is becoming a nutcase. A lot of people have suggested to me that Reiki is not real, there’s no foundation to it. Also, my girlfriend thinks that eventually when she gets her Reiki Master, she’ll be able to perform her treatments in a hospital. If this is something she wants to do, then so be it, but I’ve told her that I don’t want her attempting to perform treatments on me, because I don’t believe in them, & in so far as these courses are concerned, it’s a waste of time & money.
So, I’ll ask the audience out there in Yahoo Answers…is Reiki real, or just hocus-pocus???

    Brad answers:

Science can detect a 20W (less then a light globe) signal from a space probe out past Pluto, but we can’t detect Reiki “life force energy”. It’s complete baloney, totally implausible and Reiki can not beat placebo under clinical trial.

I think it’s the teaching institutions that are scamming innocent students, the courses are very expensive.

Ask your girlfriend, if this “Reiki energy” is so powerful – how do we know its not doing any harm?

BTW – they misuse the term “energy”, which is a measurement of something’s capability to do work.

    Laura asks…

What is Reiki? What are the reasons for which it may be practiced? What takes place during the Practice? ?

Whether you have had it as treatment or not, would you believe it helps release the accumulation of stress the body may collect?
As an Oriental practice, it deals with psyche through the body, not as in Western medicine, the body is what is mainly or solely dealt with while seeking alleviation of conditions.
Would you think that both body and psyche need attention given, in order to improve unhealthy conditions which afflict one?
    How is Reiki administered?

Would you trust to seek alleviation of STRESS, for example, through the practice of Reiki?

Appreciated would be respectful answers to the question, please…

    Thank You!
As I understood it from my friend before my skepticism was somewhat relieved about this practice, Reiki IS NOT a replacement for medical procedures or treatments. It’s a form of guided energy through the positioning of hands over one’s body, especially such parts which are afflicted to help harmonize body, mind and spiritThe practitioner’s hands never touch the body and it is done over the clothed body.
In my case the stress both my friend and the practitioner I saw the following day in Chicago
were felt over my brow, temples, heart and lower abdomen. The heart especially. And it made sense. These last few weeks have been an emotional hell for me, so that my friend of many years, practitioner himself offered this to help me.Despite someone calling this practice “blathering nonsense,I felt immediately rested and definitely absorbed of stress I hadn’t even imagined I’d “sponged” in, being that I put myself out for a lot of people and situations which are not reciprocated.I feel much better.
I asked this question also knowing what Reiki was, because in a similar question posted, a person called this practice;”blathering nonsense” which is what usually someone who has never experienced something will conclude, perhaps from bias and/or ignorance.
If I can describe what I felt both times, it was this.: Tremendous relaxation. A soothing as if I’d received a massage , although I had not. The tremendous need to go to sleep, since I am mostly a bundle of nerves, which leaves me an insomniac. What was most amazing is that there was a tingling sensation as if something were being pulled from me, as Tom, and the practitioner next day placed their hands over my abdomen, and Especially my heart. Being quite skeptical anymore about many things, especially some people and how they rob one of energy instead of giving it, and these PEOPLE I have experienced, I felt that for a time after so much wear and tear from the robbers, I was being relieved of the stress they’d left me with.
Spiritual and alternative forms of healing which include the psyche as well, are commonplace in the Orient. As acupuncture which is now quite acceptable and of practice in the West. The Orient does not just treat the body,as a car mechanic might work on the”body” of a a car-as well IT treats the spirit, psyche, soul, which are really ONE.People are far more complex than needing the hacking away of an arm,the gouging out of an organ. Especially do some of these practices alleviate problems dealing with the vertebrae. It’s highly risky 2 perform back surgery.About 18 years ago, my mother was prepared to go through this surgery, once she’d return from traveling to China. She faced a 50 % failure rate.In China she went through acupuncture through the good length of time she was there. She’s now well, and no one had 2 hack into her, setting aside the fact that “mind” was there also to be treated. These aren’t bogus procedures. How I feel now is outstanding! I’ll continue receiving these thru Tom!
I care NOT one bit whether some people believe these procedures work or not-that may remain their opinion.Especially if they haven’t tried them themselves.I say, try something before opening one’s mouth in opposition. That’s both ignorant and stupid! Excuse me!
I know how much abusive behaviour I’ve allowed myself to take in JUST this year alone-so much that having gone to the doctor for sleeping pills, iron pills all kinds of procedures which paid my psyche no concern, only my body-did me absolutely no difference. No change.I even went to a psychologist for six weeks and found that talking was making me even more distressed and stressed. I abandoned the discussion of this and that and the advice of how to best handle what I was taking in, once it became so pricey and useless that I could not wait to walk out..SO, Again I’ll ask “Skep…: Have you tried this or are you talking through your bias because of what selectively you’ve read??? That’s all!
I asked you this in another question
In conclusion I will give no thumbs down to anyone, unless that person is insulting, offensive or abusive. Your opinion is your opinion after all, but for goodness sake, I’ll say this GENERALLY : Don’t Knock something ’till you try it! I’m certain people have heard that expression before.
I’m careful to not say Boo, Bogus to something I have had no personal knowledge of. I would think others would want to be at least as fair, unless it is so OBVIOUSLY a Scam, that you can recognize the SHAM from the git-go!!!
THANK YOU SOOOOOO VERY MUCH, CAROLYN, for your input!!! G.
I will look up your links!
    Good Night Folks!
    Thanks!
Kat, I am a person who needs a lot of FELT prove to believe in something. I do not just go for placebos and my mind takes over and I am “SNAP” better.
Please look up the links good Carolyn, above your avatar has provided. I believe it is something which you should give a chance at exploring. If you are open to it, you’ll feel immediate effects as I have. I am having another treatment done tomorrow. Fortunately my friend is a trained practitioner so he offers me these from his generous and healthy heart.
    Good Luck! Later, kid!!! Greci.

Reiki has been gaining acceptance and credibility for years now. It has been paid for by Insurance companies for Pain management and is considered Stress Reduction as well.

I teach Reiki, Reflexology and Acupressure to Nurses aka RNs at a local community college and they are using it more and more in their regular practices.

One of the hospitals here by the name of Santa Rosa has a Home Health Nurse that travels to work with people that are disabled and cannot leave their home. She does Reiki, Reflexology and other Complimentary Alternative Healing

WE DO NOT diagnoise or Prescribe. We do not tell our clients to stop taking any medication. Reiki and Complementary Alternative Modalities are in addition to traditional medicine.

Reiki is the Traditional type of medicine used in China, Japan and many other countries for thousands of years. What we call traditional medicine in the hospitals is considered the New Age Medicine because it has only been around for 200 + years..

There is a lot more information on http://www.reikisanantonio.com
go there for more answers to your questions. How I got into the alternative healign is also on that site under My Gift

    Charles asks…

New believer in Reiki- have you ever had Reiki?

I won’t go into detail explaining what Reiki is, because I’m not sure I would do a very good job of it, but basically it’s just… energy work that someone else is doing on your body. Anyway, when I went for the treatment the lady said now don’t worry if you need to cry, just let it out it’s perfectly normal. Anyway it felt SO good to have this done to me, honestly I don’t even think she had her hands on me, but it felt like the freakin’ hand of god was… healing me. It was almost like that super feeling you have after a massage, that really relaxed feeling. Anyway all these old suppressed memories from my childhood (which as you can imagine weren’t so hot lol) were coming up, especially after I turned over and she got to my head throat and upper chest, and i was sobbing. Now before any of this happened I was having this pain in my throat and chest and I asked her about it because it was quite uncomfortable and she said well in Chinese medicine these are the areas of grief.
So anyway I had all these thoughts, it felt like they were coming up and then leaving my body, actually leaving. The poor woman knew I was on my honeymoon and assumed I was sad about my marriage! lol… I didn’t want to go into detail with her of course but let me tell you, after I had this done (two years ago?) a huge weight has been lifted from me. It’s weird, and I want to go again but I wonder if she was just really good at what she did and I wouldn’t find anyone else that good? I can’t very well go back to my honeymoon destination just for Reiki. Lol

    Brad answers:

Receive it, give it, love it. Reiki has saved my life and healed medical conditions that my doctors had branded hopeless.

I have been a reiki Master teacher now for 7 years. It is such an important part of my life.

I agree with the other poster who suggested that you find an Reiki Master with whom you are comfortable. It is pk to shop around, call, ask questions, try a few different practitioners and stick woth the one you feel best with.

If you don’t know where to find a practitioner in your area you can look online for www.reikipage.com and www.byregion.net

    Donna asks…

Strange lights during a healing treatment?

I was getting an aruvedic hot oil treatment where oil is dripped over the forehead, also included it was a head massage and she did some reiki and/or cranialsacral too. She put her finger on my Third Eye Chakra and left it there for some time. My eyes were closed. I saw a flash of light, and then another flash of light a few seconds later. These two flashes repeated themselves again several minutes later, and again her finger was in the same place. The lights were all off, there was only a small window and the blinds were drawn. She said she saw the lights too, and that they seem to just be in the room with no source. Any idea what this was? It feels like something special happened there. Thanks~!
Like I said, the massage therapist saw the light too, so it wasn’t a seizure unless she had one too. It was something we both saw.

    Brad answers:

Ever heard of satan appearing as an angel of light?
    Ever heard of demon possession?
Something did happen, but I wouldn’t call it special.

    David asks…

What is the best massage therapy?

For Christmas I am planning on getting my mom a certificate to go get a massage but I am not sure which one to get .. Which one do you recommend getting?

    Deep Tissue Massage
    Hot Stone Massage
    Marrakech Spa Massage
    Neuromuscular Ther
    Relexology Massage
    Reiki Massage
    Sweedish Massage
    Thai Massage

    Or a spa body treadment;
    Ancient Seaweed Body Wrap
    Aromatherapy Body Wrap
    Cellulite Treatment Wrap
    Ultra Hydrating Body Wrap

    Or any type of facial?

    Brad answers:

If your mom does not regularly get a massage and won’t be going to get them regularly after this, I would get her a Swedish Massage or a hot stone massage. Swedish Massage involves a very fluid, soothing massage technique that most people would find very relaxing. It is also what most people mentaly picture when they hear the word “massage.” Swedish massage can be performed as lightly or deeply as the client finds comfortable. Make sure your mom knows she can speak up if the massage is too intense!

Deep Tissue and Neuromuscular Massage are powerful therapeutic techniques, but are not neccessarily relaxing. They can be uncomfortable at points in the treatment and may even require some client participation. These are techniques that can help recover from an injury, improve athletic performance, and even treat chronic muscular pain. But they are not something I’d give as a one time gift to someone without experience getting massage. However, if your mom has a chronic injury or pain, this might be something to try if she is up for it.

Reflexology is usually focused only on the bottoms of the feet. If your mom is not a fan of having her feet touched, she will not enjoy this as a gift.

Reiki treatments are more of an energy treatment than a hands on massage. In most treatments you remain fully clothed while the practitioner adjusts your body’s energy field. Consider if this is something your mom would be spiritually comfortable with or particularly enjoy.

Thai massage is done fully clothed and lying on the floor. The practitioner then stretches the client using various techniques and poses. Many clients describe it as “doing yoga without doing any of the work.” This is not a passive massage, but it is energizing.

A body wrap is like being smeared in soothing goo, wrapped in plastic, and wrapped up in an electric blanket to soak. If you enjoy being moist and cozy, this is a very soothing and relaxing experience. If this isn’t something your cup of tea, its like being a pita wrap in a toaster oven.

Most spas will allow you to give a dollar amount gift certificate instead of choosing a specific treatment. If that isnt an option, they should be glad to discuss the details of any treatments you are interested in so you can choose the one your mom is most likely to enjoy
